Southpac Trucks History
Though Southpac Trucks has been trading as a stand-alone entity only since 1994, through its staff the company carries up to 25 more years experience in the PACCAR Group brands, Kenworth, DAF and – until 2006 – Foden.
Southpac Trucks was formed by The Colonial Motor Company Ltd, the late Mike Corliss and Southpac's CEO, Maarten Durent in 1994. Both Mike & Maarten had worked for the Foden and Kenworth dealer South Pacific Trucks Ltd and prior to that the Foden dealer STE Ltd.
Its complete local ownership gives Southpac Trucks a unique insight into the needs of New Zealand transport operators and allows the company to respond quickly to changing market conditions. It is also able to mix and match specifications within the PACCAR Group brands to provide the optimum specification for New Zealand’s unique operating conditions.
A major feature of the company’s operations is its emphasis on parts, service, and support – pillars of an integrated strategy that sees truck sales as only part of the equation. We see the biggest focus of the company, not on the initial selling of a rig, but on a lifetime support of the product.
Southpac is a medium-sized, very focused company, with branches in Auckland, Rotorua and Christchurch and supported by a countrywide network of 21 ALLRIG parts and service dealers who support the Trucks by PACCAR brands sold by Southpac.
A central call system means that a 24-hour support service is accessed by a single telephone number. Every ALLRIG dealer has a service vehicle on round-the-clock standby for service in its geographical area.
Used truck sales and Southpac’s parts and servicing also operate under the ALLRIG banner.
Southpac Truck’s parts and service staff are sent overseas regularly for additional training on DAF and Kenworth brands. We believe our people are our strength and giving them the best possible training allows them to better service our customers.
As a relatively small company, closely linked to a very large one, we are in an ideal position to offer a complete range of trucks, supported by the best back-up in the New Zealand transport industry.
“PACCAR products allow you to be confident you are investing wisely in your future.”
